Homeschooling: German Family Gets Political Asylum in U.S.

This article is an update on a previously posted topic and discuses a German family that was granted asylum in the United states. The family wanted to homecshool their children, which is illegal in Germany and had refused to send their children to public school. They immigrated to the United States rather than a neighboring country, because they were contacted by the Home School Legal Defense Organization, who helped them to become the first couple to receive asylum in the U.S because they were” persecuted for homeschooling”
In my opinion granting this couple asylum sets a dangerous precedent. Normally people receive asylum as a result of more serious matters, such as being political protesters or having your life endangered. It is also unusual for people from Western countries to seek, and receive asylum. Germany, as well as many other European countries, does not allow homeschooling, and this ruling could result in an influx of asylum petitions. Even though I personally do agree with countries that don’t allow homeschooling, I do not think it is the job of the United States to intervene in such matters. The United States already faces many difficult issues regarding immigration and by allowing asylum for this family, it will only serve to bog down the system even further
